Thursday 5th December
Acting Lesson:
- On the first day back we were given the scripts to our new project called 'The Dumb Waiter' which is a play by Harold Pinter which consists of 2 men who are assassins hiding in the basement of a restaurant.I am playing the part of Ben from pages 18-19.
- We spent the majority of the lesson reading through a few pages of the script in order to gain an understanding of what we will be performing.
Friday 6th December
Blog Session:
- We updated our blogs with the work that we had been doing in previous lessons.
Acting lesson:
- For this lesson we stayed in the room that we were blogging in and instead of the acting lesson we were given the choice to continue our blogs or to go to the drama studio to work, the majority of the class decided to continue blogging.
UAL Level 2 Week 11
Monday 5th December
Blog Lesson:
- During our blog lesson we worked on our blogs updating them on the things we have done in the previous week.
Pastoral Tutorial:
- In the pastoral tutorial lesson we mainly continued on the work we were doing in the previous blog session but some of us were called up to the teacher to talk about college and our academical choices.
Tuesday 6th December
- Had no lessons as we watched the 2nd year level 3's Peter Pan pantomime which was very fun and interesting to watch. It was made more intriguing from the use of different unconventional parts, for example the fight scene between Captain Hook and Peter Pan was done in the from of a Mortal Kombat fighting game which made it more exciting to watch.
- Another thing I found very good about the performance was that they found ways to include the audience, for example when Tinkerbell died they used the audience to shout "I do,I do, I do believe in fairies" and as the audience got louder the faster Tinkerbell came back to life which I found made the performance better overall because as a personal preference I find it better if the audience gets included as well.
Wednesday (No Lesson)
Thursday 8th December
- Had no lessons due to teachers working on the pantomime.
Friday 9th December
Blog Lesson:
- Worked on updating our blogs and writing about what we thought of the level 3's pantomime.
UAL Level 2 Week 10
Monday 28th November
Blog Lesson:
- Focused on working on our blogs updating them to the work we have been doing so far.
- Completed more tests and updated our personal achievements page on ProPortal.
Acting Lesson:
- Recording our scenes for our silent movie for the first time, it went very well as we had only rehearsed a few times before this. Overall the recording went very well as we managed to get it all done at once with only a few mess ups during recording. Certain thing such as body continuity for example remaining in the same place whilst we were changing scenes or ending each clip.
- After we were done with all of the recording, we watched it back to see if there was anything that we missed out or could've improved on.
Tuesday 29th November
Acting Lesson:
- Vocal warm-up including repetition of the letters C, G, L, N, D ,T, M ,P, B, then BAH, doing this activity helps with speech confidence and pronunciation. Also kept a constant low hum which helped with the use of our diaphragm which allowed us to be clearer with our speech and put more emphasis into certain words.
- After completing our vocal and bodily warm up we moved onto an activity based in a art gallery where there were 2 spies that had to make contact and one police officer that ad to try and catch them before they made contact. I played the part of the police officer but was unsuccessful in catching the spies but they were also not able to make contact with each other.
- We then moved onto another activity that was based a the Oscars Awards Ceremony where we were given a playing card that had our rating on so for example number number 1 would be the highest rated and would be a high paid famous actor and anything from 5 to 1 or an ace would be a waiter.
- Finally we did another activity where there was a table, a chair and a water bottle and we had to arrange it in a way that made the water bottle the most important thing. Then we had to go to the table and make ourselves the main focus or the most important thing.
Movement Lesson:
- As our starting activity we used the the board number activity for example 1. Run, 2. Walk etc. this helped to warm-up our bodies and help to increase our bodies movement capability for the follow up activities and the lesson itself. Moved onto doing a complete full body warm up which included different stretches and different core strength exercises.
- We then had to work with a partner of equal high and then had to use each others strength to pull on each other and get up, this cause some problems as it would not work if one person was stronger or was putting more effort than the other person as it would just end with one person dragging the other person on the floor towards them.
- After doing the warm up we moved onto working in groups and creating a new walking piece which we had to do as one big group including everyone in class. After that we separated and had to adapt on it and add new moves onto the walking sequence in accordance to the beat.
Production Lesson:
- We were allowed to go home early which meant that we did not have a production lesson at all that day.
Wednesday (No Lesson)
Thursday 1st December
Acting Lesson:
- As a warm-up to the lesson we did a tongue twister that goes "Which switch miss is the right switch for Ipswich miss" we did this in order to improve our pronunciation of certain words and help the fluidity of our voices.
- After completing the warm-up we then moved onto an improvisation activity where a number from 1-10 was called out which had an environment based on it. The way it worked was that 2 people were called up at a time and had to make a small improv scene based in the setting and always saying yes to whatever the other person said. For example me and my partner were given the setting of a jungle which was number 4, after being given our number we then adapted it into looking for treasure on the ground, the scene ended with me walking away with all the treasure after using that my partner had to say yes to everything.
Friday 2nd December:
Blog Lesson:
Continued updating and working on our blogs.
Acting Lesson:
We did a vocal and body warm up as we usually do in the previous lessons.
After the warm up we moved onto working with various different partners starting with different lines, for example a few lines that we had to start or finish the short scene with was "Mum said what", "I love you" and "Here?". The final one which was I love you was adapted by my partner and I by proposing a marriage to the other person. We did this activity for the majority of the lesson.
UAL Level 2 Week 9
Monday 21st November
Blog Lesson:
- Worked on improving and updating our blog.
- Also worked a small bit on the teaser poster I had been working on last Tuesday.
Acting Lesson:
- My group and I were allowed to go home early as the teacher was working mainly with another group.
Tuesday 22nd November
Acting Lesson:
- The lesson started by us all getting into pairs, we had to tell our partner our morning all the way up to when we got into school in the chair we were sitting in. After telling our partner our story, they then told us theirs. Each person had 1 minute to tell the other person. After both partners had told each other their stories, we then had to find a new partner and tell each other the stories that we had heard from our previous partners.
- After we had told our new parents, we then moved again but this time got into a larger group of about 4 or 5 people depending on each group. As before we had to tell everyone the stories that we had heard then had to create a silent piece of acting. My group and I decided that it would be best if we made a small silent film that included parts form everyone's story, we then preformed it to he class after a few short rehearsals.
Movement Lesson:
- We started the lesson off with a full body warm up as we usually do as it helps to relax our bodies and warm up which improves movement capability.
- Once we were done with the warm up we moved onto improving the certain dance moves we had been working on before, after we had completed the entire sequence we then moved onto group work where we had to make a 4-count walking dance piece.
- Upon working on our dance routines, we had to then perform them to the rest of the class.
Production Lesson:
- In this lesson we worked more on the posters that we had created last week. Instead, as I had completed my teaser poster last week, I worked on the creation of my full poster. This took all lesson and I took loads of different ideas from various members of my group. I ended up with this as my final product for now unless I choose to improve on it.
Wednesday (No Lesson)
Thursday 24th November
Acting Lesson:
- We worked on our Silent Movie Project for a small part of the lesson until we had to transition to the music room to work with the music students to start creating the background music that we would have in our Silent Films. I found this incredibly useful as we were able to assess the speed and theme of the music that would work with out production.
Friday 25th November
Blog Lesson:
- We were given the choice to either work on our our posters that we have created or, to work on our blogs. I decided to work on my blog as I was falling a bit behind.
Acting Lesson:
- Working in small groups, we did various improvisation exercises such as 'Postcard' where you are given a country and have to create a still image based around key features of the country.
- After this we then moved onto trying to recreate scenes from famous films such as, Godfather, Avatar and Star Wars as before using still images to portray the scenes.
