UAL Level 2 Week 16

Monday 30th January

Blog Session:

Further worked on our blogs adding to them with the things that we had been doing in previous lessons.

Tuesday 31st January

Acting Lesson:

Began the lesson with a warm-up which included stretching, vocal warm-ups such as tongue twisters, humming and repetition of letters such as: C, G, L, N, D, T, B. We did this so that we would be better with our pronunciation of words and to better our articulation of letters so that every word was pronounced correctly and could be heard clearly.

After we completed our body and vocal warm up we then focused on working on our performances. My partner and I did multiple run-throughs until the end of the lesson. The

Movement Lesson

  • At the start of the lesson as usual we completed a small warm-up by ,moving around the room then doing different muscle workouts. Once we were done warming up and exercising we then got into our groups and began to join all of our pieces together that we had been working on previously. The result of this would be one large piece including all of the movements that we had been working on before to create one much larger piece. This would then be recorded and examined, I was not present as I had cut my hand and left to use to toilet to the cut on my hand.

Production Lesson:

  • In this lesson we continued working on our model boxes. We were able to make a much greater improvement on the design of them as we now had most of the items that we were planning on working with. We worked on our model boxes until the end of the lesson.

Wednesday (No Lesson)

Thursday 2nd February

Acting Lesson:

  • As this was the lesson before our actual performance, the teacher decided to take me and my partner out to fine-tune our scene and make sure that everything was perfect. We did multiple run throughs whilst experimenting different things that we had not tried before.
  • After we were done with this we returned to the classroom to continue practicing our scene. We did this till the end of the lesson where we were given our final peices of feedback on how we could all improve on our scenes to make them better.

Friday 3rd February

Today we finally performed the Dumb Waiter to our audience, this was also recorded by our teacher.

UAL Level 2 Week 15

Monday 23rd January

Blog Session:

  • In this session I mainly just added more onto my blogs that I did not update the previous Friday.
Acting Lesson:
  • At the start of the lesson we began with a full body and vocal warm up.
  • Then after this we moved onto further practicing our piece on the Dumb Waiter.
Tuesday 24th January

Acting Lesson:

  • In this lesson my partner and I were taken out for a short time to have a 1 to 1 practice run through with out teacher, this allowed us to focus on our performance a lot more and being alone with the teacher definitely improved our performance as we added new things and run-through went a lot more smoothly.
  • After this we then went back the the usual classroom to continue practicing and working on our piece.

Movement Lesson:
  • In this movement lesson we began with the Board Number warm-up which then lead to an all body warm-up including stretching and different muscle workouts
  • After we were done with out warm up we spent the lesson creating a new piece which was to be performed as slowly as possible. After we were practicing for the lesson we then had to perform it to the class.

Production Lesson:
  • In this lesson we looked at a few examples of model boxes that were used as bases for concert layouts. We looked at a few different examples before being given the task of coming up with a shopping list full of things that we need to create our own model boxes for our concert that we will be producing.

UAL Level 2 Week 14

Monday 16th January

Blog Session:
  • Updated blogs again.

Acting Lesson:

  • Spent the majority of the lesson rehearsing our Dumb Waiter production which was good as it allowed us to improve on it. It is also good practice for remembering our lines which I feel I've improved on as I now know a lot more of the script than I used to.
  • I also enjoyed working with people that were not my partner as it allowed me to gain a better interpretation of how to better play my character.

Tuesday 17th January

Acting Lesson:

  • At the start of the lesson we did a full body warm up which included stretches, movement around the classroom and improv talking in the role of our characters to other people in the classroom. This helped us to get focused to play our characters in our scenes.
  • We then looked deeper into the characters Ben and Gus, who they are and what kind of people that they are. When we looked at Gus we said that he was less likely to take the lead whereas Ben due to his age difference is much more mature and knows a lot more. We also came to the understanding that Gus is dependent on Ben and looks to him for guidance, we can see this with the amount of questions that he asks him.
  • Then we moved onto the scene rehearsals with people that we hadn't worked with before. As we were performing the 2 scenes 2 people called out different emotions that we had to portray whilst playing our character, for example calling out sad, happy, excited, tired etc. This was difficult as we did as we didn't know what emotion would be called out next, but was also useful as it allowed us to practice adapting to different things instantly which then helps to improve our improv work and help our ability to allow things to flow much better.

Movement Lesson:

(OBSERVATION LESSON)

  • In the movement lesson we did a warm up as we usually do as it helps to relax our bodies and improve movement capability, also did the board number exercise with numbers 1-8 like: 1. Run, 2. Walk etc. we did this for about 15 minutes until everyone was warmed up. Then we moved on to do multiple core exercises including push ups, sit ups and planking.
  • After doing this we then practiced our walking dance routine for the rest of the lesson, linking my group and another together.

Production Lesson:

  • We started our drawings for our chosen performer.

  • On the drawing I have also spoken about what she is wearing, why she is wearing it and how it works well with the person that she is:
  • The dress that she is wearing which is more a shirt is very low cut as when she is performing she usually tries to sexualize herself.
  • The cross that she is wearing shows that she may be trying to connect with her fans on a deeper level.
  • The blue is works very well as it is dominant because it is the only thing she is wearing.
  • The large piece of fur shows that she probably has a lot of money which also compliments her style of expensive fashion which can be associated to Rihanna brand Fenti.
Wednesday (No Lesson)

Thursday 19th January

(OBSERVATION LESSON)

Acting Lesson:
  • At the start of the lesson we  started by performing a full body warm-up, this helped to relax us and get us focused for the lesson, the warm up included tongue twisters, stretching and other different vocal warm-up.
  • Then we practiced our Dumb Waiter scenes with our partners and with other people in the class.
  • After this we performed it to the class and people gave feedback.

Friday 20th January

Blog Session:
  • In this session I wrote about all the things that I had been doing in my lessons during the week.

Acting Lesson:
  • In this lesson we practiced our Dumb Waiter production as we had been doing in our previous lessons, this helps to make it better and also helps us to remember lines.
  • After we had practiced we then moved onto creating  whole new piece for the Silent Movie project which included all of us into the Cops and Robbers  production.

UAL Level 2 Week 13

Monday 9th January

Blog session:

  • We blogged for the entirety of the time we were in school which was good as it allowed me time to catch up on the blog weeks that I had been missing previously.
  • (Might not be this day, check for previous days Thursday and Friday to see if its them instead)

Tuesday 10th January

Acting lesson:

  • At the start of the lesson we were given 2 questions to consider while we were rehearsing and after when we would have to perform, they were 'Why am I there?', 'What's the relationship?'.
  • During this lesson me and my partner ran through the scene that we were going to perform multiple times in order to remind our self of what we have to say and to gain a better understanding of how to play the scene itself. At first I found the script very repetitive overall with reoccurring themes of food and petty small talk for example the phrases "Put the kettle on" and "Light the kettle" causes a small dispute between the 2 characters on the correct terminology.
  • After we were done practicing we then had to perform our scenes to the rest of the class one group at a time, this was useful as it allowed us to gain an insight of how other people depict the scenes and how they believe its supposed to be played, this allows us to to adapt our play to better suit it for the whole play overall.
Movement Lesson:
  • At the start of the lesson we went through the movement wheel and how it would be incorporated into our next unit.
  • We also looked at BEST in relation to dance and movement learning and definition
  • Then we moved onto practicing our step routine and trying to add new moves to it. We also worked with another group using their dance moves as well as ours. This was good as it allowed us to have a more developed piece with better ideas and actions as they were developed with both groups.

Production Lesson:
  • Finished our group poster which was difficult as we could only use ideas from 2 people rather than the whole group having an input on what should be on the poster.
  • We got given our new assignment which was to design a clothing outfit which we would then have to present to the class next week, I managed to draw the outline but had difficulty thinking of the clothing and colors to use on the outfit itself.

Wednesday (No Lessons)

Thursday 12th January

Watched plays from the Level 3 Second Years which I found to be very enjoyable to watch as they were created by themselves in a short amount of time. After we watched their performances they held multiple workshops which included various different games such as still image games, number games and group exercises where someone would have to be led around a human obstacle course. These games were fun but also helped to focus us and further develop our ability as actors to perform to large amounts of people.

Friday 13th January

Acting Lesson:

  • Practiced our Dumb Waiter scenes with people who weren't our partners which was good as it allowed us to get new ideas about how the scenes should be played out as they would've been ideas from people who've never seen that part of the script before so the ideas were entirely new.
  • Performed our scenes to the rest of the class and received good peer feedback which was useful to improve on our work.
