UAL Level 2 Week 18

Monday 20th February

Blog Session:
  • In this session we just focused on working on our blogs trying to add as much detail as we can. This includes the stuff that we did the previous term, i.e catching up on the stuff we had done in the previous lessons.
Tuesday 21st February

Acting Lesson:
  • In this lesson we were given our new assignments for our new devised project '#weareallimmigrants'. We then wrote down everything that we associate with the word immigrant and what we would define it as. After reading through the sheet we the moved onto practical work that we were working on last term.
  • We then practiced the other silent movies that we were working on last term, we ran through them multiple times in order to make it better.

This is us practicing our "Cops and Robbers" comedy silent movie.

Movement Lesson:
  • We began this lesson talking about our new assignment which would be based around a Chinese form of martial arts, 'Tai Chi'. We started researching Tai Chi for example where it originated and when and also the physical and mental benefits for actors.
  • Then we watched a video on YouTube of someone demonstrating a few basic moves including defense and attack forms.
  • After watching we practiced it for ourselves which took up the rest of the lesson.
Wednesday (No Lesson)

Thursday 23rd February

Acting Lesson
  • Like previously on Tuesday we continued practicing the silent movies we had created last term. This included the Cops and Robbers and the other silent movie that my other classmates created. We as before practiced them for the rest of the lesson trying to perfect it and make it better for the performance in late February.
Friday 24th February

Blog Session:

In this lesson we updated our blogs with the activities and work that we had done in the week so far.

Acting Lesson:
  • In this lesson we began focusing on the new assignment #weareallimmigrants, we were given a sheet that included all the words and definitions that we wrote down the previous lesson.
  • Using those words and definitions we then had to devise 3 freeze frames that were aimed towards the pros of Immigration, we chose to create scenes that showed off the best pros of immigration, for example Asylum, safety and Jobs.

The Dumb Waiter Project

Evaluation:

Overall I think that the performance went very well and I'm very pleased with how our scenes turned out, they were all very enjoyable to watch and I personally thought it was very clear the amount of time and effort that we all put into practicing our lines and rehearsing our parts.

Watching other actors perform The Dumb Waiter also allowed me to gain a better understanding  of how my character Ben should be play and how my relationship to my partner Gus played by Bruno is meant to be portrayed. I used the ideas of Jason Isaacs who played Ben in Harry Burton's adaption of the play. By watching how Jason played Ben it allowed me to gain a better understanding of how the character is portrayed by other actors which then helped me in how I depicted how my character was supposed to be played.

I feel like over the time period of rehearsing I myself as an actor have improved a lot. Acting on stage in front of an audience always, I feel, allows me to improve my ability as an actor, for example my positioning on stage in relation to where the audience is seated is now a lot better.

In the performance I feel like there were quite a few things that worked well, for example I feel like me and my partner both played the parts of our characters very well. It was very clear and all dialogue was well spoken which made it flow more easily and easier to understand. The other performances that the rest of the people in my class were also very good and very enjoyable to watch.

UAL Level 2 Week 17

Monday 6th February

Blog Session:
  • Continued writing on our blogs, getting them up to date on previous work in lessons.
Acting Lesson:
  • In this lesson we watched our performances of The Dumb Waiter for the first time after having performed it on Friday 3rd February. After we had watched all of the videos of all the scenes, we then had to begin writing an evaluation om how we thought the performance went and how we could have performed it better and so on.
Careers Guidance Session:
  • In this session we had someone come in to talk to us about what we would be doing next year. We were given information about courses for next year, what we need to do to achieve getting in to them and what other choices there are. I found this very useful as it allowed me to gain a better understanding of what I want to do next year and what I need to do to get to the next step.
Tuesday 7th February

Production Lesson:

In this lesson we were given more time in our groups to work on our model boxes, this time was very useful as it allowed us to build more on what we had created so far.

After we had our production lesson we then had our Career Passport Interview to determine whether or not we would be suitable for applying for a course at the college next year. I completed my interview and then performed a small 1 minute monologue from a play called 'Dreams in Captivity' which was required from someone who wanted to progress onto Level 3 Acting next year.
